Friday Night Lights Available Next Month on Nbc Direct
Internet-savvy fans of Friday Night Lights would be relieved to know that the NBC show will soon be available to download from the web and into their very own computers. However, fans must hurry as this exclusive offer will only be available for a limited time.
On Wednesday, NBC announced their fresh innovation, NBC Direct, which enables users to download episodes of their favorite shows in the span of one week after the original airdate on television. This venture is in line with their competition with Apple Inc.'s iTunes which offers downloadable programs at $1.99 each.
"With the creation of this new service, we are acknowledging that now, more than ever, viewers want to be in control of how, when and where they consumer their favorite entertainment," Vivi Zigler, executive vice president of NBC Digital Entertainment explained.
The test launching of the new service will be held next month, and content will be initially offered for free downloading. These downloads will be available only within seven days after its television broadcast.
"Kind of like Mission: Impossible, only I don't think there would be any explosion and smoke," Jeff Gaspin, president of NBC Universal Television Group said in a conversation with the New York Times.
The programs will also contain some commercials which cannot be skipped and are required to be downloaded with every episode. As of now, the service is only available to Windows-based PC users. They are still working on the service for Mac users.
Debuting on NBC Direct in October are programs such as Heroes, The Office, 30 Rock, Friday Night Lights, Late Night with Conan O'Brien and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Previously, NBC took almost 40% of iTunes downloadable video profits, up until the two companies' opposing views on content pricing forced them to part ways. NBC had previously negotiated with iTunes to increase their prices to as much as $4.99 from Apple's mandatory standard of $1.99.
"We are disappointed to see NBC leave iTunes, because we would not agree to their dramatic price increase," Eddy Cue, vice president for Apple's iTunes, said in a statement last month.

Best Lesson on Baby Night Lights
I had the unfortunate experience of having to go to the hospital to visit a friend with her month old baby boy. It seems that her baby was having some complications and it required that he stay in the pediatric ward for a few days.
While I was paying my visit I watched as the nurse did some checks of the baby's vitals and also did a diaper change. While I was watching, the baby was not all together too fussy considering being in a hospital crib. But, what struck me as the importance of sensory development was that in order to comfort the baby they had installed a small light machine.
This light machine basically produced a mild serious of light changes to the area around the crib. The lights danced about the room and similar to the Cloud B Constellation Night Lights gave the dingy hospital room a calm, peaceful, feeling.
After the nurse was done with her duties and the diaper change, I was able to speak to my friend and ask her about the lights and how the room was set-up. She explained that the rooms had been set-up just for the purpose of soothing the babies that have to stay in the hospital for several days. What was even more important to my friend, is that she has a Cloud B Night Light in the baby's room at home and it keeps the baby's nighttime sleep pattern the same, because he sees the same lights in his own room.
How smart that was, the lights help develop a perception to vision sensory, and with the same types of night light her little one is not only being comforted by the night lights in the hospital room, but his development stays constant. It turned out the baby was fine, and was released from the hospital two days ago, but what impression that baby's hospital room was. It also reinforces how important night lights are to the development of newborn that a hospital would install them into the rooms.
